The official inaugural meeting of the National Prostrate Cancer Support Group meeting was held with a more than expected turn up of participants. The movement was mooted by Brigadier General Dato Dr Selvalingam, Consultant Urologist from the Armed Forces Hospital. There were 17 prostate cancer survivors and carers attending the meeting.
The meeting started with an introduction and explanation of the need to form the National Prostate Cancer Support Group by Dato Dr Selva. Representatives from the Max Foundation and founding members of the Max Family were at hand to assist the start up of the support group. Dr Razak spoke on his personal experience in forming up the Max Family support group for the CML cancer patients. Mr Dass who is the founding member of several local prostate cancer support groups in KL spoke on his experience about the aspects and requirements of forming a prostrate cancer support group.
Participants elected their own chairperson and core committee members to start up the movement.
